5 tricks for a perfect mattress every time
Buying a quality mattress is always a good investment because it allows us to ensure a proper and pleasant rest.
Sometimes, however, adopting a wrong behavior can lead to its fast wear, making your mattress turn from an ally to an enemy of our health.
Your sleep depends on the comfort of your mattress, which is precisely why it is essential to try to keep it in good condition for a long time. In this brief guide you will find useful tips for proper mattress maintenance.
Eliminate moisture
Did you know that while we sleep we lose about one and a half liters of water?
Mites love moist environments, and after a long night's sleep, our mattress could turn into the ideal environment for these little pests.
Opening the windows in the morning for at least 10 minutes should become a regular habit, not only because it allows for proper air exchange, but also because it prevents moisture from building up on your mattress.
Periodically, if time permits, we recommend that you leave it on the bedstead and possibly turn it over, leaving the window open for at least a few hours so that the bedroom is fully ventilated.
However, we recommend that you avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, especially in spring and summer, because some of the materials are likely to spoil and the lining of your mattress may yellow.
Want to be sure to completely eliminate all traces of moisture? Try sprinkling your mattress with baking soda and let it sit for about half an hour before removing it!
Keep your bed clean
Keeping your mattress clean requires that everything on it be clean as well, so remember to change your sheets and comforter covers and machine wash them at a minimum temperature of 60° C; this will best eliminate dust and bacteria.
If you own a removable mattress, it is a good habit to wash the cover, which has a zipper located on the lower surface, at least once every 6 months, carefully following the instructions on the label. Pay close attention to them because very often mattress covers are not washable at home, in any case, washing in the laundry guarantees excellent cleanliness and removes the risk of ruining the cover with a wrong washing.
In case of stains always use specific products, remember that covers often need special care so always follow the directions in the user manual or ask the seller for information.
Veradea offers you three removable mattress options: Giusto mattress, Ibrido and Memory Gel, the cover of which is washable at 30°C, taking care not to use bleach for washing, do not put in the dryer and iron at a maximum temperature of 110°C.
Use a vacuum cleaner
As we said, dust is the enemy of your mattress because it contributes to the formation of dust mites and bacteria that are harmful to your health.
So, in addition to periodically washing the cover and sheets, we recommend that you vacuum your mattress often, this way you will remove all the dust and dead skin residue deposited over time.
Turn the mattress over
Did you know that mattress maintenance should start from the moment you buy it?
So when you receive your vacuum-packed mattress, open it as soon as you can, this way you will prevent it from staying closed too long.
Let it take shape for at least 6 hours, and although good quality mattresses are ready to use in no time now, it would be best to wait a while before sleeping on it to enjoy its full potential.
In fact, a new mattress needs some extra attention: for the first three months it is best to turn it in the head-to-toe direction at least once a month, this will allow it to adapt optimally to your body.
After the first period this can be done every 3 months, this way the wear and tear will be even and you will not be forced to change the mattress before time!
Pay attention to water
During our lifetime we spend a lot of time on our mattress: think that a human being sleeps an average of 26 years!
So we understand that it can often happen that our mattress gets stained or wet.
But what to do in case of a stain?
If you immediately notice that you have stained your mattress act fast, it is best to remove the stain immediately to prevent it from setting or penetrating between the layers of your mattress.
We recommend using water and baking soda if it is a light, superficial stain, but if it requires more invasive treatment it would be best to unlined the mattress and wash the cover thoroughly.
